Economic Forum organised by OCG & GetUp! hilights need for change.

Over 500 people attended a public forum on the future directions for Tasmania's economy hosted by Our Common Ground's Judy Tierney and organised by Our Common Ground and GetUp! at the University of Tasmania in Hobart on 27 April.

Participating in the panel were: Tasmanian  Premier Lara Giddings, Greens Leader Nick McKim, Opposition Leader Will Hodgman, Saul Eslake, Program Director, Grattan Institute, Prof Jonathon West, Director Australian Innovation Research Centre, Dr Bruce Felmingham, Economist, IMC-Link and Dr Phill Pullinger, Director of Environment Tasmania.

Remarkably, Australia's native forests store more carbon pollution than any other forests on Earth. This is highlighted by a new advert featuring Dr Peter McQuillan from Environment Tasmania, The Wilderness Society, GetUp and Our Common Ground (see below).

By protecting them, we can achieve two important outcomes. First, it would immediately reduce emissions and store the pollution from nine coal-fired power stations every year. Second, it would earn carbon credits which can be used to help with the forestry industry.
